Weight management through hypnotherapy focuses on changing the subconscious patterns and beliefs that influence eating habits. Instead of relying on willpower alone, hypnotherapy helps change one’s mindset to establish healthier, lasting behaviours for diet and exercise.
For weight issues, do seek your GP’s advice first, as you may need other treatments too.
In therapy, understanding a client’s motivation and reasons for change is key, especially when it comes to weight management, where emotional and psychological factors often play a major role. Some of the areas I like to explore include:-
What’s driving your desire for change?
How would your life improve if this change happened?
Do you find yourself eating for comfort or out of boredom?
A key part of managing weight is choosing healthier foods; advice that’s widely available on trusted sources like the NHS. However, the real challenge often lies in staying motivated and committed. Breaking old habits like carb-heavy eating or bingeing can be difficult, especially when comfort eating feels so familiar.
While nutritional guidance focuses on what and when to eat, hypnotherapy works on why—addressing the emotional and mental patterns behind eating behaviour. It helps reduce cravings, shift mindset, and make healthier choices feel more natural and satisfying.
As a hypnotherapist, I support clients in building a healthier relationship with food and exercise by using suggestion techniques that engage the subconscious mind.
Regression techniques can help uncover the underlying reasons behind a client’s long-held beliefs and feelings about themselves to the food they eat. It is also possible to alter the associations one makes with the food we eat so that when we are offered a slice of chocolate cake, we can understand its composition and the harm it could do us and turn it down.
Carbs are notorious for boosting the dopamine (pleasure) hormone in our brain’s reward circuitry, so adjusting associations can be the most powerful treatment method.
A gastric band is a medical device placed around the upper stomach to reduce its capacity, helping you feel full more quickly and eat less over time. It limits how much you can eat—not what you eat.
A hypnotic gastric band is a non-invasive hypnotherapy technique that uses guided suggestion to create the subconscious belief that a real gastric band has been fitted. This often leads to reduced appetite, smaller portion sizes, and healthier eating habits—without the risks or recovery time of surgery.
When combined with positive lifestyle changes, the hypnotic gastric band can be an effective weight-loss tool. Many clients report feeling fuller sooner and more in control of their eating, with some programmes reporting success rates of 70–80%. The full programme typically takes 4 to 6 sessions.
Maintaining progress isn’t always easy, which is why creating a realistic, personalised plan is a core part of my four-to-six-session weight management programme—tailored to your specific needs.
A key focus is lifestyle change, such as incorporating regular walks, mindful eating, exercise routines, and using personalised affirmations to stay motivated.
Hypnotherapy supports this process by strengthening your inner drive, helping reshape eating habits, boosting body confidence, and promoting lasting weight loss—without sacrificing your emotional wellbeing.
